Long Weekend Road Safety Operation – Thursday 6 April 2023
Minister of Mobility Ricardo Mackenzie will join Provincial Traffic Services during an operation to wish travellers a safe journey during the April Holiday long weekend.
Date: Thursday, 6 April 2023 Time: 16:00 Venue: N1 Sonstraal
Please confirm your attendance with Rebecca Campbell on 076 783 2583 or rebecca.campbell@westerncape.gov.za
This operation follows Monday’s launch of the April Holiday Road Safety Plan. For the first time, Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services offered FREE vehicle fitness tests ahead of the Easter school holiday, to help motorists prepare for traveling safely. Checking vehicle fitness is critical to ensuring safety on the road, so that everyone will get to and from their destinations safely.
Minister Mackenzie has emphasised the theme of personal responsibility in road safety, with the following crucial tips:
- Make sure everyone is buckled up - this will significantly reduce the chances of serious injury if something goes wrong.
- Every 200km, or two hours, take a break to reduce fatigue so you don’t nod off while driving.
- Speeding is tempting on a long journey, but it can be deadly. Just take it slow - can a couple of hours really be worth a life?
- It goes without saying that alcohol and drugs do not mix well with roads. Avoiding this combination can make the difference between life and death.
It is up to each one of us, whether a driver, a passenger or a pedestrian, to be the change we want to see on the roads and make sure everyone arrives home safely after the long weekend.
