Good afternoon, goeie middag, molweni

This newly constructed school is a replacement school that will be the educational home of some 800 learners and teachers. This R35 million school has two Grade R, ten foundation phase, ten intermediate phase, and eight senior phase classrooms, as well as a brand new school hall and sports fields. The classrooms are built specifically so as to receive optimal natural light and ventilation.

Construction of this school began in June 2014, and we are proud to have it completed and ready for the new 2016 school year. This project has empowered various members of the local community, as well as local businesses. 50% of this project’s labour force was sourced from the local community and empowered through our EPWP work opportunities; local sub-contractors and suppliers were used to carry out essential work during the project; and on-site training was provided for students of the built environment.

This project has also seen the application of best practice Green Standards throughout, which will see significantly reduced maintenance costs as a result of the various energy saving measures that have been put in place at this school.

A vote of thanks is owed to our dedicated project team from the Department of Transport and Public Works and our partners at the Western Cape Education Department. I should like to also thank our contractor, SJC Joint Venture, who has delivered this state-of-the-art educational facility on time, and in budget.

My department remains committed to being the leaders in the delivery of government infrastructure and related services, and we will continue to partner with our colleagues at the Western Cape Education Department in building schools in areas where they are needed most.

As I hand over the school to Minister Schäfer and her department, I appeal to you all to continue to work together to provide quality education to our children so that they can be empowered to seize opportunities in the future that will make their lives better.

Mag God alle leerders en onderwysers en die bestuur seën by Kranshoek Primêre Skool, en in die toekoms.

I thank you.
