Successful Housing Demand Database Drive in Struisbaai and Napier
The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure, in partnership with the Cape Agulhas Municipality, is pleased to report of the successful two-day Housing Demand Database verification drive that took place in Struisbaai and Napier on 29 and 30 July 2023. The drive witnessed an impressive turnout, with nearly 400 residents actively participating by visiting the registration stations. As part of the Western Cape Government's unwavering commitment to ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for housing allocations, the initiative provided an opportunity for residents to register and update their details at the Napier Community Hall and the Struisbaai Library on Saturday and the Struisbaai Community Hall on Sunday. The collected data will now undergo a thorough process of collation, assessment and analysis, forming the foundation for future endeavors in addressing housing needs more effectively. The provincial Minister of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, expressed his appreciation, saying, "I’d like to commend the community members who braved the cold weather and visited our stations. This initiative aims to further help the two spheres of government identify and address the region's housing needs more effectively”. Building on this success, the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure plans to initiate similar open-day outreaches in other parts of the province soon. Details of these initiatives will be communicated to the relevant communities to ensure widespread participation. For residents who were unable to partake in this weekend’s initiative and are interested in a housing opportunity, we encourage them to visit their local housing or municipal offices, where they will find assistance and guidance. The collaboration between the Department of Infrastructure and the Cape Agulhas Municipality, along with the active involvement of the residents, reflects the collective determination to address housing challenges and work towards a better future for all.
