Our mandate is to preserve our environment for future generations by preventing environmental harm. We make informed decisions (based on South African environmental legislation) and understand how other legislation impacts these decisions to enable a Resilient, Sustainable, Quality and Inclusive Living Environment.
With the remarkable landscapes and the uniquely diverse culture of the Western Cape, it’s not difficult to see why the responsibility of our Department is to preserve the environment for future generations by preventing environmental ruin.
Our citizens play a significant role in helping us to achieve our objectives.
Working together is what we strive for and can only achieve by working with the communities, businesses and all organisations. Ensuring environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility that will lead to improved sustainable development and environmental integrity.
The national departments of Environmental and Water Affairs, the provincial municipalities and other spheres of government are our key stakeholders. By working in collaboration with all stakeholders, we can ensure that the environment is preserved.
