We mourn the passing of a rugby great, Theuns Stofberg
It is with great sadness that the Western Cape Government heard of the passing of former rugby player, Theuns Stofberg, this morning.
Theuns represented Free State, Northern Transvaal (now known as the Bulls) and Western Province, as well as playing for the Springboks between 1976 and 1984. He also occasionally captained the Springboks team. As a world class flank, he was known for his speed and strength.
The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, said: “Theuns made a great impact on rugby in our country and helped bring joy through sport to many people during difficult times. His untimely death due to a car accident comes as a great shock to us. He will always be remembered for his contribution to rugby in the province and at national level.”
Our condolences go out to Theuns’ family, friends and all those who met him on and off the rugby field.
