Minister Marais saddened to hear of tragic death of young Stellenbosch FC player
It is with great sadness that we have heard the news of the untimely death of Stellenbosch Football Club player, Oshwin Andries. Oshwin was a young man who had a bright future ahead of him. He was an absolute example of what can be achieved when young people make positive choices in their lives and follow their passion. He came though the ranks of the Academy system and became his club’s youngest ever goal-scorer in the DSTV Premiership. He also captained the South African team at the recent u/20 AFCON COSAFA qualifiers. Minister Marais said: “Oshwin’s death is a devastating loss to sport in the province. He was a beacon of hope to other young players, as he chose to follow his football dreams as a means to future success. He had a bright football career ahead of him and I am saddened that his journey was cut short by a senseless act of violence.” Our condolences go out to Oshwin’s family, friends, football club and athletes. His memory will live on through those who he inspired to follow the same journey, regardless of their personal circumstances.
