Minister Marais to hand over Netball World Cup trophy to City of Cape Town
On Friday, 7 July 2023, the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, will conclude the Western Cape Netball World Cup trophy tour and officially hand over the trophy to the City of Cape Town. Minister Marais received the trophy from the Eastern Cape Government at the Bloukrans Bridge on Monday, 3 July and has since travelled across the province to display it to communities from Beaufort West, Prince Albert, the Garden Route, Overberg, Cape Winelands and the West Coast. The trophy will now stay in the City of Cape Town and will be displayed in various venues in the city before the start of the Netball World Cup on Friday, 28 July. This is the first time the World Cup tournament is being hosted on African soil, with Cape Town being the sole venue for all matches at the CTICC. The tournament is set to bring an important economic boost to the province, with an increase in visitors to the province expected. Media are invited to attend the handover ceremony.
